A Guide To Disney Genie Service & Individual Lightning Lane

| Jessica Rechani

What is the first thing that most people talk about when Walt Disney World and the Disneyland Resort comes to mind?

Some may talk about the unique dining options, some discuss the endless shopping experiences, some review their stay inside the many hotels, and some debate on which ride was the best out of all of them.

However, when it comes time to plan your fun-filled vacation, it is hard to figure out where to start. Fortunately, Disney has come up with three efficient solutions to help make the tedious planning process feel like a walk in the park.

These programs are called Disney Genie, Disney Genie+, and Individual Lightning Lanes. Each one of these programs is different, but they all serve the same purpose: to help make your Disney vacation a memorable and efficient one for your family's history books. This article will discuss the functions they perform.

Disney Genie

Debuting in 2021, Disney's Genie service is a completely free virtual trip planner that customizes an inventory of amenities that you can do throughout your stay based on your preferences. These can include character meet-and-greets, dining experiences, and rides that everyone in the family can enjoy. Disney Genie also displays the current and oncoming wait times for some of your favorite rides. So, when you want to kill some time before heading off to your next attraction, you can rest assured that Disney Genie will be there with plans with your best interests at heart.

Disney Genie+

Acting as a new line-skipping tool, Genie Plus is a service that covers most of Walt Disney World's popular attractions. Genie Plus acts similarly to the now-extinct Fast Pass Plus system and allows guests to reserve a time slot for a Lightning Lane (which will be covered next) for a specific attraction. However, unlike Fast Pass Plus where you can make multiple reservations at the same time, Genie Plus only lets guests make one ride reservation at a time, so, it is best to make your selections carefully when picking your next ride of the day. Prices are fifteen dollars per person with tax, but the prices can increase based on how popular the attraction is with parkgoers.

Individual Lightning Lane

Now, people who are possibly reading this article right now are wondering what on Earth is a Lightning Lane. A Lightning Lane is the new name for the Fast Pass line at the Disney parks, with one main difference from the systems that came before it: you have to either have Genie Plus or an individual attraction selection, both of which, you can make via your My Disney Experience or the Disneyland Resort Mobile Apps. If you have one of these options situated, you and your party are free to jump ahead of everyone else who is stuck in line and enjoy the ride.
