Nothing’s better than that first view of “ARTS” in different colored lines on EPCOT banners against a blue sky dotted with clouds (lift up your most-Woody-looking kid, for the true effect). The hand curled around a wrapped-up art piece that whispers “I’m yours.” The grin when you’re handed a plate, already tasting the crunch, one eye on the next, art-like treat.
Savor your time at the 2025 EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, open through February 24, 2025. We’ll be your guides, please keep all paws, ears, tails, and snouts inside at all times, and buckle up.
If you’re a Broadway fan, say “moi” like Miss Piggy! CommuniCore Hall features a walkthrough exhibit called Once Upon a Stage: 30 Years of Disney on Broadway. Under the lights, spot iconic full costumes from some of your favorite Broadway shows. This close, it’s easy to imagine you’re on the stage, too—who says Broadway can’t call you up?
Don’t miss The Lion King’s mask and puppet exhibit along one wall! It’s set up like a real workshop, complete with shelves, a desk, and a stool patiently resting. Or Aladdin’s costume studio, stuffed with notes, fabric, hangers, and enticing projects. Lean in and read the descriptions on the plaques, if you’re a nut (like us) for trivia.
Designs swirling, sparkling in the light, the Aladdin costumes draw you closer (don’t go into the cave, Abu). Blink. Blink-blink. Was that a trail of music notes slipping from the vest’s flap? Must be one of Tinkerbell’s tricks. Follow the ropes in a circle around the costumes, for a full view.
Excuse me. Yes, you. Would you mind moving a bit? More? Right out the gateway, that’s right. Very good. You see, the sidewalk you’re pressing with those worn-out sneakers is my canvas. The whole sidewalk at our park is a canvas, for chalk art, that is.
Throw out a long, Mrs. Incredibles-stretchy arm against the family and friends to either side of you, as soon as you spot one of these chalk masterpieces. Check out secluded places by the railings around the lagoon, right up by the edge. These chalk beauties are bright with color. If you’re lucky, as you watch, they’ll spring up off the ground—Figment abandoning painting to weave through the legs of a few happy passersby.
Of course, if you’re looking to buy a new art piece to take home, there’s plenty of artists at this year’s festival. Scan through your day’s artist schedule. If you’re a foodie, dream big, and go for the most colorful! There’s lots to discover, if you’re a dabbler, wandering slow, or if you’d like to chart a course (you’re the pilot, after all) for the food studios.
Wave a forlorn goodbye to the “ARTS” sign in its many colors, and grab the hand of your Woody-esque kid, as you exit the park. Until next time, splurge on that chalk set with your little ones, or with your neighbors across the street. The sidewalk’s your canvas, too. Sneakers welcome.
