A Guide To Virtual Queues At Walt Disney World Resort

| Jessica Rechani

Two of the most popular rides in the Walt Disney World Resort, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT and TRON Light Cycle Power Run at Magic Kingdom Park, are some of the most complicated rides to grab a seat on. However, if you plan on saving the galaxy with Peter Quill and his rag-tag gang of heroes, racing against a light cycle into the grid, or both during your stay, there is a way where you can get on those rides in no time.

What is this method, you may ask? It is called the Virtual Queue. The Virtual Queue is a system that most businesses use to improve wait times for users. This visual step-by-step guide will show you how to work through this system so that youcan enjoy these mind-blowing and exhilarating attractions.

What Is A Virtual Queue?

From time to time, a virtual queue—accessible via the My Disney Experience app—may be used for select attractions or experiences. When a virtual queue is in place, you can request to enjoy that attraction or experience later in the day, so you can enjoy other experiences while you wait. When the virtual queue is in place, a standby queue will not be available, and Guests must use the My Disney Experience app to enter the attraction or experience.

Please Be Aware That:

  • Joining the virtual queue does not guarantee the ability to participate in the experience.
  • Boarding groups for a virtual queue are limited, subject to availability, and are not guaranteed. Not all boarding groups may be called to return, based on availability of the experience.
  • Guests may hold boarding groups for attraction virtual queues and a virtual queue for other select experiences at the same time, when available.
  • Please arrive at your attraction once your boarding group is called. Be advised that late arrivals may not be accommodated.
  • Guests visiting from another theme park using an Annual Pass or the Park Hopper option may not be able to join the virtual queue in a park where they do not have a theme park reservation. In order to request access to a virtual queue during Park Hopper hours, a Guest must be inside the theme park where the virtual queue will be used.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please find a Cast Member at one of the Guest Experience Team kiosks throughout the park or visit a Guest Relations location.

How To Use Virtual Queues

Step One

Head over toyour My Disney Experience App with your log-in credentials and scroll down to the Virtual Queues section in the home screen to check on the status and to follow the next steps on joining the virtual queue. Virtual queues open at both 7am and 1pm (6pm in the evening for Deluxe Resort Guests Extended Evening Hours).

Step Two

This step takes place the second you enter the park. A few minutes before the scheduled queues get released, you must sign in to the My Disney Experience Appand select everyone who is in your party who will be joining you on the ride. Please note that much younger children in your group are added as a guest, but rest assured, they will still be there when you make your selection.

Step Three

At the moment before the virtual queues open for the day, you have to keep refreshing the page on your My Disney Experience App. Why? Because at the time the virtual queues are released, you will have a chance of being able tojoin in. Top Tip! Do not pull down to refresh as this takes longer to refresh and rather click the refresh button at the bottom of the page. The minute you see the button that says, 'Join Boarding Group', click it! After that, you will more than likely be a part of the group. Once selected, you have successfully joined the Virtual Queue.

Step Four

What happens when you become a part of the Virtual Queue? After being selected, you will receivea boarding group number. This number is the number your group is and will be called when it is time to get on the ride. In the meantime, guests have the freedom to explore the parks until the boarding group number is called. Guests can go on other rides, shop for souvenirs, and dine at the many fabulous restaurants (though, I would not recommend you eat a full meal before spinning and singing in your evacuation shuttle or revving up the engines on your lightcycle).

Step Five

When your boarding group has been called via notification, it is time for you and your party to get in line for the ride. Once at the entrance of the ride, you must scan your park ticket that is linked with the My Disney Experience App. After that, you and your group are free to enjoy riding the rides before collecting your after-ride photos to look back on when you return home.
